Introduction

The Urasenke Washington DC Association is a membership organization open to anyone who is interested in experiencing The Urasenke Tradition of Chado, the Japanese Way of Tea. It is comprised of individuals, families and organizations; the Association creates and enjoys tea gatherings and tea-related events to explore the multi-faceted world of Chado.

Annual membership entitles members to numerous opportunities that deepen one's understanding about Chado. The major benefits of membership are:

Tea Gatherings

Seasonal tea gatherings mark special occasions in the tea world and celebrate each season in a way that is unique to Chado. Some gatherings are open to Washington DC Association members only.

Lectures and Tea-Related Events

Chado is comprised of numerous artistic and philosophical traditions which the Association explores through lectures, hands-on workshops, and discussion gatherings. For example, learn to make the kaiseki cuisine and a traditional sweet that are served at tea gatherings, or participate in a discussion about the historical development of Chado in Japan. Various programs occur throughout the year.

Meet other Tea Enthusiasts

The tearoom attracts a variety of people, and the Urasenke Washington DC Association seeks to build a community of tea people that might not meet otherwise. Some Association programs are created with a casual atmosphere to give members a chance to get acquainted and make new friends.
